The bowl is chosen according to the heating method used. With an aluminium foil setup, most standard bowls will do: flat bowls, Turkish bowls, phunnel or vortex. With a Provost system, a high-rimmed bowl — phunnel type, or flat with a rim — keeps the setup stable and spreads the heat evenly.

The Kaloud Lotus system requires a compatible bowl, such as the Kaloud Samsaris bowls or a bowl whose rim matches its diameter. Chimney-style systems (Brohood, Dragon, Badcha and others) are used with a Turkish clay bowl or a glass bowl such as the Dschinni Nero Glass, whose material withstands the temperature of the coals.

The Quasar Raas system is used with the Quasar bowls designed for its dimensions, in ceramic or glass depending on the model.

The material also affects how the bowl is used: clay is porous and seasons over time, glass is non-porous and easy to clean, silicone is light and unbreakable. Ceramic, glass, silicone and clay bowls are all in the shisha bowls category.

Regular maintenance is crucial for keeping your shisha bowl in top shape and ensuring incredible smoke every time. Once your session ends, allow your bowl to cool down before touching it—this prevents thermal shock. Once cool, empty any leftover molasses, then gently clean the bowl with a non-scratch sponge and liquid soap. This method clears molasses residue, tobacco buildup, and lingering odors, no matter if the bowl is made of clay, ceramic, glass, or silicone. For a deeper clean, soak the bowl in warm water with specific cleaner like El-Badia Shisha Cleaner powder or a dash of white vinegar for tough spots. Rinse thoroughly and dry well before the next use.

Avoid rinsing a hot bowl with cold water to prevent cracks. A specialized bowl brush is handy for hard-to-reach spots, and you can find all El-Badia cleaning products for targeted care.

Pro tip: every material needs a little extra attention—never use steel wool on silicone, and use only a soft sponge for glass bowls. Proper care preserves your flavors and guarantees every shisha/hookah session is smooth and hygienic!
